5 Things I learnt from the Agenda Women Masterclass - How To Build Habits That Last

The third installation of the Agenda Women Masterclass was life altering. That has to be the best way to summarise it in one sentence. When I did a promotional IG Live with Sandra Chuma, I had an inkling that this one would be special. As soon as I was done, I decided to sponsor the tickets for everyone who had attended our 2022 masterclasses and I do not regret it one bit.

Now to get to the reason why I am writing this article, there are my key takeaways from the masterclass.

  1. You will only be as good and the being doing the doing

This was the beginning of the masterclass and honestly, this could have been the only thing Sandra taught and I would have walked away better positioned to rethink my goals and habits. Let me repeat that, you will only be as good as the being doing the doing.

Let me unpack that for you. Often when we think about our goals, we are completely focused on what we need to do versus who needs to be to tackle those goals. We have a shopping list of activities that will get us closer to the goal but if we are not doing the deep inquiry of why we have failed before, we continue to set ourselves up for failure.

2. Be, Do, Have

The key question should always be, “Who do I need to be in order to achieve my goals”

  • Be the kind of person with the life you want to live. This is particularly focusing on attributes.

  • Do the things that person would do

  • Have the life you want

I know it may be confusing, get access to the masterclass here to get the breakdown.

3. Your subconscious mind is always driving your behaviour.

What really helped me internalise this message was the idea of creating an alter ego.The minute Sandra spoke about this, I thought of your fave “Beyonce” and her alter ego Sasha Fierce.

Everyone is often overwhelmed by the idea of the person they want to become. We are challenged by internal programming that tells us, this is not going to happen for you. These things are not part of your family line. Your mom couldn’t do it, what makes you think you can accomplish this. Your dad failed in the same way that you continue to fail, this is in your DNA.

No matter how much our conscious minds want to win. The conflict with our subconscious mind results in us self sabotaging.

I have already chosen my alter ego, it is someone who is alive, wealthy, dresses well, works hard, loves her family and holds herself in high regard. I won’t tell you who it is but I already have a CANVA mood board.

4. Self sabotage is the result of an internal conflict.

I have never understood self sabotage as clearly as I did after this masterclass. The concept was baffling, why would I self sabotage if I want what I want. Failure to achieve goals was often linked to laziness, challenges getting certain things done, lack of support etc etc. Now I understand that these were the fruits of not believing that I deserved that life or rather, not knowing how to be the person I was hoping to become. You honestly cannot be what you have never seen right…. Now that is a whole other masterclass.

5. Stop treating your goals like you are dating them, COMMIT!

The final gem was COMMITMENT. We spent a little time unpacking commitment.Think about commitment for a minute. What does it mean? If you stood in front of the altar, about to marry the partner of your dreams, committed to making that relationship work, what are you willing to do? Everything right?

The final question then becomes, how committed are you to reaching your goals. How far are you willing to go? How uncomfortable are you willing to become for the life of your dreams?
